WORKSHOP. Volunteering: personal and social change (ENG)

As you grow, you discover that you have two hands - one for helping yourself, the other for helping others. And at the deep level of all human needs, there is always a need for belonging and serving something bigger than yourself.

Can serving others and doing good be the way for personal growth? Can a profound change be made by a group of dedicated and inspired people?

This workshop will hold a thought-provoking discussion on the benefits of volunteering, while sharing personal stories about volunteering as a life-changing adventure for you and people around.

We will explore volunteering on the level of personal growth and social change, taking into account challenges of volunteering in the Global South and examining ethical as well as political considerations.

Main points of our upcoming discussion:

  • How to distinguish the difference between pride and humility, grown by volunteering?
  • How can you make sure that a volunteer makes more good than harm?
  • Volunteering in your country vs going abroad: pros and cons.
  • How to become aware of the cultural and political situation of the country you are about to “help”?

…and many other insights that might inspire you to try and see volunteering from various perspectives.
